DON's Deal: Mother's Day

My mama loves me, this I know...because she spent hours cleaning both my dogs after they adventured in the fresh, green burrs. Just look at that mess! But she didn't shave them or drop them at the groomer, she cleaned them up with loving care. Happy Mother's Day to my mom and all my mommy bloggers who inspire me with all that they do!
I'm off to Pismo Beach and I'll let you go ahead and think it...
"Cher, what are you doing?"
"I'm Captain of the Pismo Beach Disaster Relief."
"I don't think they need your skis."
"Daddy, some people lost everything. Don't you think that includes athletic equipment?"
Yeah, my family is headed the beautiful beach community north of Santa Barbara and just south of SLO wine country. We'll be paddle boarding (I look just like Rihanna doing it if you are mentally picturing this), wine tasting, and watching the dogs go ape on the beach. I don't know what it is about dogs and sand or snow, but it like they hit a power-up button and they take off like lightening!

Happy Mother's Day again and have an excellent Sunday.
Waves and Wine,

Checking in on Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood was on Ellen yesterday and I got the request to ID her fringed leggings that she barely ever showed so I don't have a great photo for you. Here's the link to the Tylie Malibu fringed leggings if you're interested.
Looks like Miss Carrie has her weave sewn in for this trip; no in and out extensions while she travels. She landed in Arizona to catch her hubby's game. Look, more white bags! Carrie's is the Kate Spade Hadley Tote.
Methinks the boys behind her are more interested in fluffing Carrie's poof and checking out the players than the actual scoreboard.
Drama face!
I recently learned Carrie's first date with her husband was to a New Year's Eve party where they also shared their first kiss. Awwww.

PYTs: Alba, Dobrev, Moretz, Saldana, Roberts

If you are going to dive in and pay up for one of the season's most coveted bags, then you want to get a lot of wear out of it. Jessica Alba did just that with her white Proenza Schouler's PS1, taking it from day to night while continuing her fashionable tour around NYC.  She also wore it Tuesday with her chic daytime safari ensemble. While shopping, she paired combat boots with a soft skirt and clip in bow, plus her trademark scarf.  For a baby event last night where she was representing her business, she paired the bag with a colorful chevron Carven blouse mixed with a biz appropriate blazer and GZ two-toned heels. I am personally obsessed with getting a new white purse and definitely want one that goes over the shoulder to prevent hand contact as much as possible. You gotta work really hard to keep these babies pristine and, much like a rapper's sneakers, they are not hot once smudged at all.
All glammed up in Narcisco Rodriguez as she leaves with new Tory Burch in hand after a private shopping trip at their NYC boutique. Life is good, huh Alba?  Her mustard shoes are also GZ, but this reminds me of chartreuse, which reminds me of this week's episode of Giuliana and Bill. I, like everybody else, am thrilled for their good news, but I don't think that should prevent us from discussing Bill's wardrobe this season? It's a little, how shall I say...bi-curious. The wood bead necklace really sent me over the edge.
Sine I have a new found appreciation of Nina Dobrev, let's check her out at the Grove wearing a watercolor like floral dress by Lisa Ho. This dress is from her 2012 Winter collection so it looks like we might get extended floral wear this year!
Zoe Saldana wore an uncharacteristically voluminous Elie Saab dress to a Cosmo event.  She looks pretty, but I think her lithe frame looks better in slimmer cuts.  Nikki Reed looks fine in Keepsake's New Beat dress, but I think it's time to sport some glam looks right about now. She is the queen of casual.
At the same event, Emma Roberts shows how it is done in a Rachel Zoe sequined striped dress.  Please note all the closed toe shoes in this post and feel my heightened panic even though I can surely put this trend off until Fall.  Before the event, she spent the day straight chilling in a striped maxi skirt. It was a stripey kinda day!
And my little love bug Chloe Moretz in Alexander McQueen for the London premiere of Dark Shadows which I very much want to see, but won't because I go to the movies about 3 times a year. I'm not sure why. This year I have seen Hunger Games. Before that, my last movie was The Help. I am a total freak to my industry working, movie obsessed friends.

Hot Couple of the Minute: Kirsten and Garrett

Oh. My. God. Kirsten Dunst, 29, has landed one of the hottest men in Hollywood, Garrett Hedlund, 27. I'm incredibly upset that this apparently started in January and I didn't notice and none of you told me!! How could I miss out on such hot gossip! First Leighton, now Kiki...he has a thing for quirky girls. Excuse me while I go shop at Miu Miu real quick.
In other rando news, this segment made me really like Nina Dobrev. I've honestly never seen her in anything and thought nothing more than she is insanely gorgeous. But the fact that she was down to do this on tv makes me think she is pretty rad.  Please note Joel McHale's face.  Also, I think I need to take up yoga if that means I'll look a little like her.

Celeb Potpourri: Alba, Underwood, Akerman, Cyrus

Jessica Alba is crazy chic in neutrals while shopping in NYC. Seriously, she is on an urban safari and I love it. Her hat is by Tory Burch.  I will also continue to lament the return to non-platform, pointy toe and closed toe shoes. My feet hate these more than I can express and they'll have to get used to it.
Also working the neutrals is January Jones, back in LA and filling up her tank in Los Feliz.
Still hate the extensions, but love the J.Mendel dress on Malin Akerman. This dress is amazing and I would like to wear this to an evening function immediately, k?
Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen always look like they are having the absolute worst time together. I just don't get it. He is with her in New York while she's tending to business, something he seems to have very little of these days.  Vanessa Hudgens was all smiles as she arrived at her pal's house in West Hollywood. She's been filling her days with downtime, including boyfriend time, gym sessions, and acrylic nail touch ups. She might be one of the only celebs I know who wears acrylics (don't worry, I counted Brit Brit).

Girls About Town: VanCamp, Benson, Middleton, Bilson

You know when you just love a photo and don't know why? I LOVE this pic of Ashley Benson. She looks effortlessly cool and makes me actually want this Forever 21 mullet skirt, though I'd never look this chic in it. She also makes me want to bob my hair and buy those Jeffrey Campbell platform booties. She was awaiting a table for brunch in NYC. I'd also like her life please and thank you.
Speaking of life swap, Kate Middleton is beyond perfection in Roland Mouret, which allows me to redeem the brand after dressing Kiki for the Met.  We are seeing so many tight long sleeve dresses for Fall. We'll be covered up, but showing it off.
Rachel Bilson stopped by Wendy Williams where she wore  a Burberry peacoat, and Shoemint heels.  Working on IDing this printed maxi she wore to a Macy's event.  Her hair is so shiny! I'm drawn to it like a little bird.
Chloe Moretz charmed at Fallon in a sunny Proenza Schouler dress. Dislike the heels, but the dress is very fun and quirky.  Beyonce ditched the makeup for a book launch party for a friend. Pretty surreal to go from last night's look to this! Her blue dress is also Roland Mouret.
Also working to find more pics from this party with her co-stars, but how fab did Emily VanCamp look at her Lucky cover party at the Sunset Towers last night? She wore Alice and Olivia. Love this look!

What to Expect NY Premiere

As long as the ladies are in NY, why not put together the premiere? Sans JLo and Kate, the cast stepped out to promote What to Expect When You're Expecting. Brooklyn Decker wore a simple, summery Calvin Klein and Cameron Diaz relaxed in a sheer tuxedo blouse with silk trousers. I really like Cameron in this, it suits her personality and her hair is looking much better.
No surprise that best dressed goes to little porcelain doll Elizabeth Banks in Peter Pilotto.  The brand is known for their very structured dresses and intricate patterns (see Ivanka Trump from the Met for another cool example).
While most came casual, Erin Andrews is a little too casual in jeans and a bare midriff top. Chrissy Teigan got the right vibe in a sequined skirt and oversized white blazer. Great Spring date night outfit if you are looking for inspiration!

Met Gala Awards: Guest Feature

I've been cracking up over all your amazing comments, but special mention for Anne, who went above and beyond. Please enjoy what she sent me below as much as I did:

Best Posture: Holy smokes, Rosie. You are aMAZing. See here

I'm Sorry, Who Are You?: Coco Crazypants in Eye-Crossing Yellow

Yes, I'll Trade Bodies With You: (non-model category) Katharine McPhee

Dress that coordinates with my 1990 Sam & Libby bow flats best: Christina Ricci

Hungriest:
Jaime King (obvs)
Kate Bosworth
Anja Rubik (voila)
Diane Kruger (from her pre-Met pic)
Gwyneth "Goop" Paltrow (only bc I'm jealous and she claims to indulge!)
Alexa Chung (grandma gear can't hide the hunger)

Honorable mentions: Lea "the Tyke" Michele, Marion "does she really burp a baby on those bony shoulders" Cotillard, Mary-Kate "Sun-Dried" Olsen, Rooney "a few lbs would balance out my scary goth hair" Mara, Camilla "I'm pretty perfect but also quite famished" Belle.

In other news, Marc Jacobs? Is this a cry for help?

And who else needs to be on the Hungry list? Obviously all of show biz is hungrier than I am. (Well maybe not at the moment, as it's noon and I haven't eaten yet, but otherwise....) That said, they all look tiny to me. But some of them might soon injure themselves or loved ones when a jutting hip bone or razor-like collarbone wreaks havoc during an everyday hug. Should we start a telethon in their honor?

Indeed, it seems like extreme thin is once more becoming the Hollywood norm. I feel like every few years or so we see thin stars getting extremely thin and have notice people around me talking a lot more about what and how little they eat. It's catching, my dears, take care and enjoy your occasional bread basket with pride! Or if you're my sister, eat the entire thing and then ask for another since it is your favorite part of the meal.

XOXO,
D.O.N.

Met Gala: Love Hate Relationship

Nope, this is not an Effie Trinket ensemble, it's Elizabeth Banks in Mary Katrantzou. This is more along the lines of something I would expect January Jones to pull out, but it was a surprise from Elizabeth who has been going uber glam and gorgeous for every red carpet this year. Because this is the Met, I sort of get it, but that still doesn't make this pretty.
Pretty would be Diane Kruger in what may shock you as my favorite dress of the night.  I can't stop going back to this photo and loving the blending of casual and formal. Again, with the feathers, but somehow it still captures me. It is also very rare that we see her with long blonde extensions and somehow it makes her even more lovely than usual.
Beyonce also wanted to be daring, but combining feathers with mesh and lace is way too much. This is fug central.
Love Marion Cotillard in Dior. This dress is magical.

Met Gala: Keeping it Pretty

Some girls don't want to make waves, they just want to look really pretty. Here are those girls. Emily Blunt in a simple Calvin Klein. Very her and it suits. Nothing says I'm not preggo yet like Calvin. Meow Krasinski.
Emma Roberts chose a beautiful (if wrinkled) color by Escada that doesn't work great with her skin tone.  See Dianna Agron in Carolina Herrera for a dress complimenting a skin tone. She looks fantastic.
Orange was on about a fifth of the girls last night. Eva Mendes embraced the peplum trend in orange Prada.  Kristen Bell in the neckline of the night by Tommy Hilfiger. Yawn.
Ginnifer Goodwin picked a beautiful Monique Lhuillier dress. Those lavender shoes are hideous. Have you noticed how many girls wore closed-toe shoes last night? This will be a problem for me; my toes demand attention and hurt me when I tried to hide them.  Katharine McPhee finally escaped the overly mature and the blah with this orange sequined Elie Saab. Bravo.
Kristen Wiig loves spray tans and playing it safe. This dress Stella McCartney is pretty but certainly doesn't stand out. What's with the dark, dark hair on her? And the shoes have to go. I'm uber critical because I want her to look fantastic and I know she can. Hilary Swank surprised me in this elegant Michael Kors. She is usually a bit more daring than this. This legit could be her prom picture which is nice because she looks so young (especially with those cascading side curls) and not nice because it is so soft and safe.
Dang Solange! Look who stepped up and brought something amazing to the table in Rachel Roy! Probably the best I've ever seen her look. January Jones repeats the past in a lemon yellow Versace gown. It's been done and she knows it works.
Amys! Amy Poehler brought together a sweetheart neckline, peplum, liquid metal, and feather train all into one gown. It is a little much, but one of her better bold attempts.  Amy Adams is statuesque in Giambattista Valli. Couldn't you see arriving to a Christmas gala in this?
LaLa Anthony was mighty safe, but pretty in Zac Posen. Paula Patton just can't win with me. This Vera Wang gown and color are snoresville.
Renee Zellweger came out of hiding and wore Pucci instead of her standard Herrera. Still a very typical style look for her.  Ashley Greene wore Donna Karan, but the hair is truly terrible.
