Oscar 2012 Fashion Part 1

It's black, it's white. Black, white, and silver were the colors to be wearing last night. Gone were the pops of color, the neon, and, for the most part, the nude.  It was a formal affair with the colors to match. Also on trend was hair slicked back, up, and super simple. Not my favorite, but some did that hairstyle better than others. Let's review, yes?
Nina Dobrev gets my vote for the best black dress in J.Mendel. Olivia Wilde is a little boring in Gucci.
A couple ladies chose intricate gold detailing on their black dresses: Anna Paquin in Pucci and Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen. Other than being obviously too tight, I love the dress on Anna; really brings out her vamp. Jessica's dress is gorgeous, but I don't think it works with her hair and complexion, which is a bummer. I'd hoped she'd get it perfectly for this big night.
Kate Bosworth wore Prabal Gurung. I really like seeing the ladies in long gowns for the Oscars, but I love this dress. I wish her hair was a little more exciting though. Rose Byre stuck with her severe haircut and a slinky Vivienne Westwood.
I can't even formulate an opinion of Angelina Jolie's Versace dress because she was doing this stupid leg pop pose the entire time. We get it, there's a slit. Octavia Spencer was a total knockout in Tadashi Shoji. So many non-size-zero girls get it all wrong at the Oscars (remember Jennifer Hudson?), but this dress is everything it should be. She looks fantastic.

Rooney Mara wore a beautiful Givenchy. She is sticking with goth glam through and through. Milla Jovovich worked a stunning Elie Saab gown. Amazing!
Sandra Bullock wore a Marchesa gown. That usually makes for a slam dunk duo, but in this case, the loose fitting top with her pulled back hair just didn't work the way I'd have hoped. Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad  just kind of made me roll my eyes. She is such an attention whore. This night has nothing to do with her and while everybody has a right to look their best, she is really going for shock in a dress the way she did in 2000. To her credit, she looks just as great now.
Shailene Woodley wore a super conservative Valentino gown. Why why why wouldn't you wear your hair down with a gown that covers you as much as this dress? She looks like a little girl in her mom's wedding dress.  Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford is everything. Movie star, movie star, movie star.

I agree - Gwyneth Paltrow was stunning. Another black dress I loved was Nina Garcia's. I thought Octavia Spencer looked gorgeous in her white/silver gown. So flattering on her!

It looks like Angelina is trying to say "LOOK, I'm still sexy... remember me?" Or that she's trying too hard with that pose. ;)

Lots of lovely gowns.

I think that Jlo and Octavia's dresses are like sisters-- one is the ho and one is the more demour version ;-) Both looked great though! I actually liked Gweneth's dress too!

LOL Angelina looks so ridiculous with that pose. I love how that guy mocked her in his acceptance speech. That pose ruined the dress!

i agree with you 100% on nina dobrev. i loathe angelina so much that even when she looks fantastic i cannot admit, so i can easily say that this dress was stupid.

jessica chastain's dress looked i'll fitting albeit quite glamorous.

i loved kate bosworth's look, although i would have opted for stronger makeup. and i have to agree with you in that the oscars def call for gowns.

again with the non-age appropriate dress on shailene.

and Gwyneth deserves the time it just took me to capitalize the G. without the coat, it was just eh. but she turns it into something amazing and a red carpet #1 stunna.

I agree - Mom's wedding gown!! That's it exactly. Such a disappointment...

Octavia, Milla and Gwyneth rocked the red carpet in their dresses! I love the sparkles! And while Gwynth Paltrow's dress reminds me of something Cruella de Ville would wear if it had spots, I am strangely attracted to it...I think its the cape/cover?!

I think Gwynth looks great, but does anyone else think her hair disappointed? I think it was so blah!
