A New Hero: Mary McDonald of Million Dollar Decorators

I'm already completely obsessed with Bravo's latest show, Million Dollar Decorators.  Standing out from the pack of talent for me is Mary McDonald.  If you mixed Will & Grace's Karen Walker (the character was based on her) with Lisa Van Der Pump from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, you would have this fabulous woman.

If you are like me, you love to conceptulize a dramatic and elegant room, but have a hard time breaking out of your safety zone. I'm already more inspired to add a color splash to my living room thanks to this show and these amazing rooms done by Mary below, sprinkled with some of her over the top quotes. Enjoy!

“People think of my work as rather glamorous.
I’m not stuck to glamour, but I think that’s kinda stuck to me.”

"I've got an outfit for everything. Literally. I'm like 10 different people. I have drawers of fake hair for all the characters. I have a modern self, I have a very decadent decayed-beauty English-country self. My main character is all about, 'Gimme a boa and some feathers!'"

MORE!

"I'm more of an Annie Get Your Gun type in a ball gown; I'm not afraid to try different things and get my hands dirty. Life is full of rich experiences."

"I'd be a great paramedic; I'm really calm in emergencies. Or I'd open an orphanage in Africa, where lots of kids don’t have houses, never mind beautifully designed ones."

"Frankly, I try to force everyone to be more glamorous. I already know what you look like without makeup...That's how I feel about houses. I've seen them without makeup. I know what they look like in the morning. Now let's glam them up!"

Below are three of her gorgeously designed personal offices. This one is her current home office, as seen in the show.  It is located above her garage and she put in red double doors with oversized handles at the base of the stairs leading in. DRAMA!  BTW her photo frames are empty...too busy for memories I guess!

This is her personal office before. It was shot for Domino magazine and I just love the desk and side table.
In another office space, with wall to wall leopard, plus leopard furniture. Rawr!

And to finish it off, an interview with her that I found thoroughly entertaining here.
