Mel Gibson talked for the first time about, as he put it, the "stupid rambling of a drunkard."
"The last thing I want to be is that kind of monster. What I need to do [is] to heal myself and to be assuring and allay the fears of others and to heal them if they had any heart wounds from something I may have said," Gibson says.
Diane Sawyer will discuss Mel's alcoholism and drunk driving on Thursday's portion of Good Morning America, and on Friday they will talk about his anti-Semitic remarks, which he calls "despicable."
