DON Dishes: Apple Pecan Feta Spinach Salad

I've been having the best time in LA catching up with as many people I can over breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and drinks. Today I just wanted something light, fresh, and that wouldn't leave me with tons of leftover ingredients I'd have to trash when I leave town. Found this salad on Cooking Classy and it was everything I wanted at first bite.
Apple Pecan Feta Spinach Salad
10 oz baby spinach
3 small gala apples or 2 medium, cored and thinly sliced
1 cup pecans, toasted
4 oz feta cheese, crumbled (don't use the pre-crumbled stuff)
1/2 cup dried cranberries
12 oz bacon, cooked and crumbled (optional)
1/2 small red onion, sliced into thin strips (optional)

Maple-Cider Vinaigrette
(whisk all together and serve)
1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
2 Tbsp pure maple syrup
2 tsp dijon mustard
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper

1. Place onion slices in a colander and run under warm water for about 10 seconds, tossing once, to remove harsh bite. Drain well.
2. In a large salad bowl toss together spinach, apples, pecans, feta, cranberries and red onion.
3. Drizzle desired amount of dressing over salad and toss to evenly coat. Serve immediately after adding dressing.

All Dolled Up: Watson, Washington, Stanchfield, Young

Emma Watson just gets better with age! How natural and gorgeous is she in A.L.C. while speaking on International Women's Day at the Facebook HQ in London? What a perfect, warm shade of brunette and just the right makeup to say she means business and is going to look good while conducting it.
Cropped pants aren't for me, but I love that she always takes a classic look and gives it her own youthful twist. Props to Watson!

Sandal Season

Are we all beyond ready for Spring at this point? I know outside of California there are plenty who just want to feel the sun on their skin already. I've been digging out my shorts, painting my fingers and toes in Easter egg pastels, and gearing up for weekends spent outside.  I'm especially into nude or light metallic sandals that elongate the leg or bright sandals that add flavor to very neutral looks. Think Yolanda Foster in her all-white ensembles. I wore these Sam Edelman sandals to my sister's engagement party last Friday for just a hint of sparkle.

All my favorite sandals below (plus one kickin' pair of Missoni Converse and one perfectly shiny pump), all from Nordstrom so free shipping and free returns FTW.

Oscars 2015: Reese, Emma, Rosamund, Gywneth

After a blissful week plus in Lake Tahoe, I just stepped in the door and am furiously seeking out photos to post and discuss with you. I wanted to start with Rosamund Pike, a woman who has pretty consistently disappointed me throughout awards season, then come back to absolutely slay in this rosebud Givenchy dress. That sculpted waist, the detailed reverse neckline, and the dramatic slit all made this a true Oscars arrival gown.  I won't talk about the shoes.
Reese Witherspoon, up for her second Oscar, was ladylike old Hollywood glam in this custom Tom Ford gown.
I love this look on her. She typically goes for a jewel tone with a defined waist and this changes it up while still highlighting her best features. I am in the minority in that I didn't like her hair. I wanted more volume on top and it would have been a winner. This felt purposefully flat to me.

amfAR NYC: Kendall, Karlie, Coco, Heidi

Kendall Jenner took a shot at her sister Khloe's current favorite look, the slicked back hair, for the amfAR gala in New York. Her bold red Romona Keveza gown was finished off perfectly with shimmering gold Loubs that would have made Cinderella jealous. Kendall seems to be focused on her career and not the headlines her dad is grabbing for his transition into a woman. Have you guys seen season 1 of Transparent? I was watching it when the news about Bruce came out and the parallels are pretty interesting. Makes me wonder if he watched it and found some motivation to come out?

Ivanka Trump is one of my favs on Instagram. She posts honest and candid snaps into her life as a mother, businesswoman, and wife, coming across as shockingly normal. She looked lovely in J.Mendel.

Grammy Fashion 2015: Bold Black

The Grammy Awards are always filled with outlandish, fierce, and full-on wacky ensembles that make it a super fun red carpet to watch. I didn't catch the show last night; we've had some deliciously heavy storms that leave me even more tired at the end of the day and bed was calling my name early.  Because the attendees tend to go bold for this show, it was a surprise to see so many ladies in black.  Gwen Stefani made me clap in this Versace sculpted jumpsuit. Isn't it kind of cray to see her without her bold lips?
Giuliana Rancic stepped way outside her norm in this Inbal Dror pantsuit.
She shared a side view so folks could see all the details and was barraged with comments about how thin she is. I'm not sure she looks any different? When you work every red carpet, it must be kind of fun to mix it up like this and I'm glad she tried something new.

BAFTA 2015 Fashion: Reese, Dianna, Amy, Keira

Reese Witherspoon knows a jewel tone is a good thing on the red carpet. Her Stella McCartney dress is such a great shade of purple.
One more shot of this curvy look. Maybe filming with Sofia Vergara is rubbing off on her?
Keira Knightley ditched the Chanel that was doing her no favors for Giambattista Valli. This soft, girlish look is more suited to her personality and works on the red carpet. She looks a little peaked though, must be rough making these international awards circuits when you're expecting.
