DON's Dishes: Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

My First Birthday
I have almost no sweet tooth and am probably one of the few people you know who likes just about everything except chocolate (and meat, but I still know that is delicious), so it surprised my Dad to hear what I really wanted on my birthday was my mom's Carrot Cake. She made it every birthday to please her chocolate-hating daughter, something that was always hard for a Cuban woman to understand. It was transformed into Grover, my favorite Sesame Street creature, and made way into a Pound Puppy cake with little puppy cupcakes.

Critics Choice Awards 2015

Emily Blunt kicks off the Critics Choice Movie Awards in a red lace Emilio Pucci. Muy caliente! The trend was definitely towards bold, intricate gowns and Emily's execution was one of my favorite of the night.
Jennifer Aniston let her hair down and suited up in a slim-cut red Gucci tuxedo.  She added some delicate body chains to draw even more attention to that deep plunging cleavage.

Golden Globes Fashion 2015: Ballgown Babes

Taylor Schilling, 30, is red hot in this open-back Ralph Lauren gown. She could easily be spokeswoman for the brand with this head-to-toe all American babe look.
BTW if you haven't read Orange is the New Black, the true story upon which her hit Netflix show is based, I recommend it. I polished that off in a day and a half last week and really enjoyed it.
Salma Hayek is quincenera ready in McQueen. I loved the volume and texture of this dress, but it feels way overstyled with all the silver and white accents.

Golden Globes 2015 Fashion: Sleek and Sexy

Emily Blunt was summery chic in Michael Kors. Not the dramatic and unforgettable dress I would have picked for a nominee, but lovely nonetheless. A bunch of ladies braved the rain in white gowns this year, but even more chose similarly sleek and sexy looks.
Jenna Dewan Tatum was one of the brave ladies in yellow, all of whom pulled it off. I love the detail on this Carolina Herrera dress, which she danced the night away at the after party with her Magic Mike hubby. Might be my favorite look on her ever.
Amy Adams has grown so accustomed to being nominated every year that this is old hat for her. Which is why it was surprising that she didn't have a winner's speech ready. That said, she finally found a winning dress for her after so many fails. Versace was the designer of the night and her dress was very flattering, if wet.

Golden Globes 2015 Fashion: Texture and Lace

The moment Chrissy Teigen made that authentic but not camera-ready emotional face on camera, I knew it was going to compete with her red carpet look for press mentions today. Her Zuhair Murad baby pink dress was so refreshingly different, both in color and style. She looked bubbly happy and a stiff ballgown just wouldn't have suited her personality. I'm not sure if everybody loved this look, but I think it was perfect for her.
Alessandra Ambrosio stole the after-party show in another Zuhair Murad gown. The color is fantastic on the 33-year old model  and mom as she arrived for her first Golden Globes after-party.

Golden Globes 2015 Fashion: Sparkle in Color

Not all the sparkles were silver, as we saw on Allison Williams. She said she wanted something very feminine after playing Peter Pan and I'd say she was very ladylike indeed. Her dress, Armani Prive, was very awards ceremony appropriate. Those bold eyes with so little lip color feels like a mistake.
Jessica Chastain trends toward the conservative, but this year went bolder in a bronze Versace gown with a plunging front. Her extra glossy hair was the very popular old Hollywood waves. I think this is one of her best looks and like that she found a unique color to stand out in.

Golden Globes 2015 Fashion: Silver Sparkles

Awards season is here and there are a lot of dresses to discuss! I'm currently typing away as I watch because I'm hopping on a plane home tomorrow and getting online might not happen. Reese Witherspoon is killing it per usual. She wore a sleek Calvin Klein with her favorite sweetheart neckline. This illustrates a major trend of the night, which was silvery metallic looks.
Jennifer Lopez sticks with her formula, tight, low-cut, lots of hair. The underwire that appears to be stabbing her on one side was painful to watch while she was on-stage. Are you in the camp of keeping on rocking it or evolve the look? I think I'm ready for a little more sophistication.
Julianne Moore in Givenchy gave good sparkle and somehow managed to combine sequins and feathers without looking like a showgirl.

Girls Season 4 Premiere

A few big Hollywood announcements, starting with the birth of Blake Lively's baby with hubby Ryan Reynolds. The two haven't share any details about the baby yet, but word is that it is a girl named Violet, born early but healthy.
  • Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo welcomed their second, daughter Brooklyn Elisabeth.
  • Joesph Gordon Levitt secretly wed in December. He tied the knot with a robotics company CEO and total brainiac.
  • And Cameron Diaz, 42, tied the knot at her Beverly Hills home with Benji Madden, 35. The two have been dating since May. Nicole Richie (her new sister-in-law) and Drew Barrymore were bridesmaids in a star-studded 90-person ceremony.  Now on to some photos!

Allison Williams and her Girls team kicked off the new season in style. She wore a sparkly navy Monique Lhuillier, bold eyes, and almost no jewelry. I love this dress big time.

All Dolled Up: Reese, Rosamund, Carla, Julianne

A very happy New Year to you all! Hope your holiday seasons were filled with all the fun and friends you could handle. Thank you for sticking with my little blog as she trugs along for her 9th year!
Reese Witherspoon is charming in Michael Kors polka dots at a Cartier event. The dress isn't super figure-flattering, but it's cute and her hair is just so on point.

Into the Woods Premiere

Emily Blunt, 31, gets romantic and dramatic for the NYC premiere of Into the Woods. In a rose-covered Dolce and Gabbana dress, she was fairy tale red carpet perfect.
A little goth, a lot romantic, and all smiles. Who wouldn't be with Meryl Streep in your company?
