Met Gala: All About the Details

Kate Hudson wore her jewelry on her head and was truly a golden girl.
Radiant and happy in a gold sequin Michael Kors, she found a gown that showed off her infamous figure and sparkled as much as her smile. Top 5 for me.

Met Gala 2015: Ladies in Red

Gigi Hadid was drop dead gorgeous in DVF and long beachy locks.
Her dress was simple, sexy, and she looked really comfortable. Is it a full-on Met Gala gown? No, but she is young and that more effortlessly look really suits her. Makeup was based off the Dolce and Gabbana runaway, romantic and womanly.
Derek Jeter made his red carpet debut with girlfriend of three year, Sports Illustrated cover model Hannah Davis. Now that he's retired, maybe he's got more time for his 25-year-old girlfriend's industry events.

Hannah shows off her cover-winning figure in J.Mendel, always one of my favorite designers.
Another J.Mendel gown on Olivia Munn, who looked happy in love with football beau of a year, Aaron Rodgers.
Yas girl. Sienna Miller is a shimmery, tassled matador in Thakoon. What a stand out!
I could see Emma Watson or Emma Stone both sporting this killer look. I love the details. One of my favorite looks of the night.
Am I the only one not into Amal Clooney's Galliano gown? The layers just look messy and she looks so very thin. But serious, can we give this couple best hair? Look at those manes!
Drama from Allison Williams in Giambattista Valli. That line gives me cake topper vibes, but the waist up is good stuff.

Met Gala 2015: Attention Seekers

The Met Gala always gives me all the happies. After a big work event, not much sleep, 8 days in NYC, and now this @%$# in-flight wifi, I'm bringing you a rather haphazard recap in the most efficient way I can. Because I really miss blogging! Shall we?

I wanted to start with the attention-seekers, going for big wows and big press in over-the-top gowns. Kerry Washington brought the lady-like wonder in Prada. Pretty pink, lots of fabric, beading, embellishments, and bows, it was Barbie perfect. I mean, just look at Lily Collins' face when she sees her!
The reverse mullet front was a bummer for me. All that gown, just own it and keep it long. I know you wanted some air up under there during this heat wave, but nope.
Katy Perry was bound to be wacky and her Moschino is very much that. Giving us Troop Beverly Hills vibes with Betty Boop hair, Katy spent her party time making out with potentially on-again boyfriend John Mayer (boo!).

Resident Advisors Premiere: Banks, Chung, Camp

Jamie Chung has been so on point with her fashion. Her effortless red wrap slip dress is Mason by Michelle Mason and she paired it with an updated Stuart Weitzman take on the Nudist heels, in platinum lamé, available at Nordstrom and ShopBop, all sparkly and chic. And I am massively jealous of her tan. I've done a couple rounds of fraxel this year and it means I have to hide out inside or under a huge sunhat. My skin looks fab, but so arctic.
And her purse...I mean, amazing. This Antik Batik clutch is perfection for any summer night or fun wedding accessory. Love.

I Heart Radio Awards: Swift, Camp, Snow

If there is an awards show, you know Taylor Swift will be there! She arrived at the IHeartRadio Awards in a beaded KaufmanFranco mini and Tamara Mellon heels, which I like, and a heavily banged blonde bob, which I don't. I think it might be the color of the blonde, it looks a little lifeless. I haven't seen her performance with Madonna, but I hear it was good?
For a fun show like this, I love that Anna Camp shook things up in this bright, bold mini dress by Three Floor.

DON Dishes: Apple Pecan Feta Spinach Salad

I've been having the best time in LA catching up with as many people I can over breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and drinks. Today I just wanted something light, fresh, and that wouldn't leave me with tons of leftover ingredients I'd have to trash when I leave town. Found this salad on Cooking Classy and it was everything I wanted at first bite.
Apple Pecan Feta Spinach Salad
10 oz baby spinach
3 small gala apples or 2 medium, cored and thinly sliced
1 cup pecans, toasted
4 oz feta cheese, crumbled (don't use the pre-crumbled stuff)
1/2 cup dried cranberries
12 oz bacon, cooked and crumbled (optional)
1/2 small red onion, sliced into thin strips (optional)

Maple-Cider Vinaigrette
(whisk all together and serve)
1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
2 Tbsp pure maple syrup
2 tsp dijon mustard
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper

1. Place onion slices in a colander and run under warm water for about 10 seconds, tossing once, to remove harsh bite. Drain well.
2. In a large salad bowl toss together spinach, apples, pecans, feta, cranberries and red onion.
3. Drizzle desired amount of dressing over salad and toss to evenly coat. Serve immediately after adding dressing.

All Dolled Up: Watson, Washington, Stanchfield, Young

Emma Watson just gets better with age! How natural and gorgeous is she in A.L.C. while speaking on International Women's Day at the Facebook HQ in London? What a perfect, warm shade of brunette and just the right makeup to say she means business and is going to look good while conducting it.
Cropped pants aren't for me, but I love that she always takes a classic look and gives it her own youthful twist. Props to Watson!

Sandal Season

Are we all beyond ready for Spring at this point? I know outside of California there are plenty who just want to feel the sun on their skin already. I've been digging out my shorts, painting my fingers and toes in Easter egg pastels, and gearing up for weekends spent outside.  I'm especially into nude or light metallic sandals that elongate the leg or bright sandals that add flavor to very neutral looks. Think Yolanda Foster in her all-white ensembles. I wore these Sam Edelman sandals to my sister's engagement party last Friday for just a hint of sparkle.

All my favorite sandals below (plus one kickin' pair of Missoni Converse and one perfectly shiny pump), all from Nordstrom so free shipping and free returns FTW.

Oscars 2015: Reese, Emma, Rosamund, Gywneth

After a blissful week plus in Lake Tahoe, I just stepped in the door and am furiously seeking out photos to post and discuss with you. I wanted to start with Rosamund Pike, a woman who has pretty consistently disappointed me throughout awards season, then come back to absolutely slay in this rosebud Givenchy dress. That sculpted waist, the detailed reverse neckline, and the dramatic slit all made this a true Oscars arrival gown.  I won't talk about the shoes.
Reese Witherspoon, up for her second Oscar, was ladylike old Hollywood glam in this custom Tom Ford gown.
I love this look on her. She typically goes for a jewel tone with a defined waist and this changes it up while still highlighting her best features. I am in the minority in that I didn't like her hair. I wanted more volume on top and it would have been a winner. This felt purposefully flat to me.
